Attorney Profile
Gregory L. Doll is a founding partner of Doll Amir & Eley. Since 1997, he has recovered over $50 million for his clients as plaintiffs, while avoiding hundreds of millions of dollars of alleged damages for his clients as defendants. Mr. Doll has been instrumental in his firm’s achievement of an undefeated trial record in the ten cases it has taken to trial since the firm’s inception in 2005. As lead trial counsel, he has achieved complete defense verdicts in multiple high stakes federal and state jury trials, solidifying the firm’s reputation as one of Los Angeles’s premier trial boutiques.

Among his recent trial defense victories, Greg Doll successfully defended:

  • A former supermarket executive in a highly publicized white-collar criminal trial in federal court in Los Angeles, with his client facing up to 30 years in prison (after three weeks of trial, the jury deliberated for a matter of hours before returning a not-guilty verdict on all counts – a verdict the Daily Journal described as “stunning”).
  • Five defendants in a wrongful termination/retaliation trial in Santa Clara where the plaintiff sought to recover $4.5 million in damages and attorneys’ fees (after a 10-day jury trial, the jury deliberated for only three hours before returning a complete defense verdict in favor of Greg’s clients, awarding the plaintiff nothing in damages, after which Mr. Doll’s clients were awarded over $80,000 in costs).
  • Seven former professional athletes and high-net-worth investors sued by a commercial lending institution for $10 million in breach of contract and fraud damages (after a week-long federal jury trial in the first of a series of related trials, the jury deliberated for only three hours before returning a complete defense verdict in favor of Greg’s clients; the second in that series of trials – a federal bench trial – was then settled on favorable terms by the plaintiff after the jury announced its verdict in the first case).
  • A company and six executives and employees in a high-stakes trade secrets case in Denver, Colorado, where a Florida corporation aggressively attempted to shut down the defendants’ business and seize market share in various western states (after a day-long evidentiary hearing, Mr. Doll not only defeated the injunction, but through a series of tactical litigation maneuvers, forced the Florida corporation to abandon its business plans altogether).

Mr. Doll  has handled multiple successful appeals, resulting in both published and unpublished opinions, including a recent published decision in which the California Court of Appeal rejected analogous Ninth Circuit precedent, and held as a matter of first impression that severance agreements are inadmissible to establish liability in employment discrimination cases.   Moreover, after his most recent argument before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco, Mr. Doll received a special letter of commendation from the Ninth Circuit,  noting his “excellent advocacy” and his “special contribution” to the art of advocacy itself.

From 2006 to 2011, Greg Doll has been named a “Super Lawyer” by the publishers of Los Angeles magazine, becoming in 2007 the youngest lawyer to be named to the "Top 100” list.

Mr. Doll has extensive expertise in trade secret and unfair competition cases, as well as matters of copyright infringement, trademark infringement, misappropriation of ideas and publicity rights and a full range of other issues affecting the media and entertainment communities. He is often hired as lead counsel in real estate litigation matters in California and other areas of the country. In recent years, he has developed expertise as an employment litigator, specifically in matters involving ERISA, wrongful termination, discrimination, and wage and hour claims. He is often called upon to negotiate severance packages for executives and employees ending their employment under delicate circumstances. He has routinely handled complex shareholder derivative suits, and all issues pertaining to special litigation committees.  He has been retained recently as lead counsel for matters filed in Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Texas, and Virginia. He believes that his clients should be able to depend on their most trusted counsel in all litigation matters, irrespective of where such cases are filed, and it is incumbent on him to retain skilled local counsel to assist him in achieving superior and cost-effective results in any jurisdiction.

Mr. Doll received his law degree from the University of Southern California, where he served as Editor of the Law Review and was elected Order of the Coif. During law school, he served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Robert M. Takasugi in the United States District Court, Central District of California. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of California at
Los Angeles, graduating summa cum laude. Prior to founding Doll Amir & Eley, he practiced law at the Century City office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher (1997-2002) and the Beverly Hills firm of Browne & Woods (2002-2004). He is the author of two novels, an avid stand up paddle surfer, a novice triathlete, and a performing musician.
