About DAE Doll Amir & Eley has established itself as one of Southern California’s premier trial boutiques. Established in 2005, the firm has grown from two lawyers and a handful of clients to its current roster of nine lawyers and over 250 clients, including prominent NASDAQ, NYSE and LSE companies, as well as various artists, entertainers, athletes, producers, real estate developers, and non-profit institutions. In the past three years, the firm has taken eleven cases to trial, achieving an undefeated record.
Most recently, the firm’s partners, Gregory Doll and Michael Amir, combined forces to try a high-profile, white-collar-criminal trial in federal court in Los Angeles, with the firm’s client, a former supermarket executive, facing up to 30 years in prison. Following a three-week trial, the jury deliberated for less than three hours before returning a verdict of not-guilty on all counts – a verdict described by the Daily Journal as “stunning.”
This trial marked a defining moment in a series of defense victories for the firm, including a defense victory in a federal court jury trial in Los Angeles filed by a major commercial lending institution against a group of professional athletes and high-net-worth investors sued for $10 million for breach of contract and fraud; a defense victory in a state court jury trial in the Silicon Valley filed by a former executive against his employer and four other defendants for $4.5 million for wrongful termination; and a defense victory in state court bench trial in Los Angeles filed by a construction contractor against a major academic university for millions for alleged racial discrimination.
The firm’s managing partner, Hunter Eley, recently represented Fortune 100 banking clients in a wide array of consumer lending disputes and his entertainment clients in judicial and arbitration proceedings in the U.S. and Canada, including arbitrations before the Writers Guild of America, the Directors Guild of America, and the Independent Film and Television Alliance. Last year, Mr. Eley filed a groundbreaking lawsuit against an international distributor over the payment of guild residuals – a case of first impression under the Copyright Act – which this year led to a seven-figure arbitration award for his client in a related case.
